Unfortunately there are a lot of un-desexed cats (owned and stray) in the community that produce a large number of unwanted and homeless kittens. Instead of surrendering these kittens to institutions that often have no choice but to euthanase them, we try to find homes for them so that they can have a new start to life. The kittens are health checked, wormed, flea controlled and quarantined for 2 weeks to make sure that they are free of infectious disease. They are then vaccinated and micro chipped and entertain our waiting room in the kitten adoption centre complete with ladders and hammocks until they find a new home.
We do charge a small fee for these kittens which includes desexing (performed at our hospital when they become 5 mths of age), their first vaccination, microchipping, up to date worming and flea control and a bag of premium kitten food. The charge goes part of the way to covering some of our costs, the rest we do as a service to the community and of course to our little feline friends.
It should be understood that we often don’t know the backgrounds of these kittens but we do make sure there is no evidence of clinical disease before they go off to their new homes. If you are interested in rescuing a homeless kitten please call or visit us and you will be welcome to have a cuddle and get to know these little character’s personalities. Our nurses will be happy to answer any of your questions.
