Kitten Adoption

Kitten Adoption

At Great Western Animal Hospital, we’re dedicated to giving homeless kittens a fresh start. Sadly, the number of unspayed and unneutered cats—both owned and stray—results in a growing number of unwanted kittens. Instead of seeing these little ones sent to shelters where they may face difficult outcomes, we step in when we can to help them find loving homes.

Our Kitten Adoption Program is lovingly run by Nurse Alicia, a Cert IV Registered Veterinary Nurse, who has been leading the program since 2019. Over the years, Alicia has successfully adopted out more than 280 kittens, and her passion for animal care shines through in every aspect of the program. With a special interest in hand-raising neonates, fostering, and socialising kittens, Alicia takes great joy in helping these little ones grow and find their forever homes. It’s especially rewarding for her when she gets to see her former foster kittens return to the clinic for check-ups—they always bring a smile to her face!

Each kitten in our care receives a full health check, worming, flea treatment, and is quarantined for two weeks to ensure they are free from infectious diseases. Once cleared, they are vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to steal your heart! Our wonderful nurses often take the kittens home to hand-raise and foster them in their own time, providing the love and care needed to help them grow into well-adjusted companions.

Adoption Fees and Inclusions

We charge a small adoption fee of $250 that helps cover some of the costs, including:

  • Desexing (performed at our hospital when they reach 5 months)
  • Their first vaccination
  • Microchipping
  • Up-to-date worming and flea treatments
  • A bag of premium kitten food
  • A take home cardboard carrier

This fee contributes to the care we provide, but most importantly, it supports our mission of giving these kittens a second chance at life. While we can’t always know their full backgrounds, rest assured that each kitten is thoroughly checked for any signs of illness before they head to their new homes.
If you’re interested in adopting one of these adorable kittens, we invite you to call us for an
appointment. You’re welcome to come by, cuddle a kitten, and see their unique personalities for
yourself. Our caring nurses are always available to answer your questions and help guide you through the adoption process.
